Housekeeping Maid Easy: Proudly Cleaning for a Reason Since 2007

The leaves are changing and pumpkins are popping up everywhere: it’s October. And while some are making trips to the orchard and going trick-or-treating, October also means National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For many women, breast cancer isn’t just a reality during the month of October: They have to deal with cancer the other months of the year, too.

The truth is, 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer, or about 12% of women. And overall? About 1.7 million people were diagnosed with some kind of cancer in 2018.  It’s not just the patient fighting cancer: It affects the entire family, which means millions of Americans are impacted by cancer every year.

This is why the foundation Cleaning for a Reason was created; to serve women who are fighting cancer, and why we at Housekeeping Maid Easy have proudly partnered with Cleaning for a Reason since 2007 to serve these women.

Cleaning for a Reason

Cleaning for a Reason began when founder Debbie Sardone received a call from a potential client who had requested an estimate for her cleaning services. But she had to cancel: She couldn’t afford any kind of house cleaning services because of the cost of her chemotherapy.

It was at that moment that Sardone decided that every woman who called her company seeking cleaning services while undergoing treatment for any type of cancer shouldn’t have to pay a dime to have a clean home.

The folks at Cleaning for a Reason Foundation know that women who are being treated for cancer have enough to worry about with doctors’ appointments, treatments, and procedures. It’s physically exhausting and often emotionally draining to battle cancer, which means there’s frequently no energy left to clean your house.

The side effects of the powerful drugs that fight cancer are oftentimes very uncomfortable:

  • Illness and a weakened immune system, and flu-like symptoms like aches and pains
  • Easy bruising and bleeding
  • Hair loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Neuropathy (nerve pain)
  • Trouble breathing and shortness of breath
  • Digestive issues
  • Rashes and mouth sores

Some women may only experience one or a few of these symptoms. But for many, chemotherapy can be a  wholly draining process. No one wants to clean their house when they are feeling so poorly. That’s where Cleaning for a Reason’s mission began: To help women when they feel less than their best.

And cancer treatments are no joking matter financially, either: It’s not at all inexpensive to pay for the drugs that combat cancer. If you’re uninsured and pursuing cancer treatment, it can cost upwards of $10,000 per month. Some even have to take a leave of absence from work because of the side effects of their treatment. This means there’s nothing left in the budget to have someone come in and clean your home, even though you might not have the energy to do it yourself.

This is where Cleaning for a Reason steps in. Cleaning for a Reason pairs experienced professionals from certified home cleaning companies across the US and Canada with women who are undergoing treatment for cancer, so that no woman who is a cancer patient has to pay for housekeeping services. They believe no one should have to deal with cancer alone, and we agree.

Cleaning for a Reason offers free cleaning services to any woman over the age of 19 who is fighting cancer: 1 cleaning a month for 2 months, for a total of 2 cleaning sessions. Each professional cleaning company that works with Cleaning for a Reason works with 1 client at a time, and patients are assigned a cleaning service based on zip code and capacity.

We can think of no better time than National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to share our passion for our work serving women through our partnership with Cleaning for a Reason. October is the perfect time to spread awareness about the importance of finding breast cancer early, and it’s also the perfect time to rally around women who are currently receiving treatment for cancer. Cancer doesn’t just happen during the month of October, but it is a great time to remember that we can all work to spread awareness about early detection, and research, and we can all find ways to pitch in and help that match our areas of expertise.

Our clients are thoroughly pleased with our work, and we extend the same thoughtful care and professional services to our Cleaning for a Reason clients. No one should have to deal with the fallout from cancer alone - and we believe that every little bit of help can make a world of difference when you are dealing with a major medical issue like cancer. And that’s why Housekeeping Maid Easy is thrilled to help.
